The ever vibrant Rotary Club of Mumbai Mulund South (RCMMS) has embarked on a mega fund raiser programme for the noble and notable cause of paediatric heart surgeries in association with notable hospitals in the city of Mumbai.
RCMMS intends to complete this project with prominent hospitals in Mumbai.
The cause is of immense importance because congenital heart defects affect a large number of newborns and account for a high proportion of infant mortality worldwide. As many as 200,000 children are born with congenial heart disease in India. Out of this, a mere 2% are treated and 98% do not survive or are disabled for life.
Apart from the trauma and stress the family undergoes, the cost may hamper such treatment for many lesser privileged families.
Each such surgery costs between Rs. 1.20 lakh to Rs. 2.75 lakh with concession given to Rotary (Rs.4.00 lakh for general public) and Rotary District 3141 is targeting to fund 1,000 such surgeries annually, to help these families fight the congenital heart defect and to enable these children to live a healthy life.
RCMMS club has undertaken the task to sponsor at least twenty five such surgeries within a short period of next one year with support of large hearted donors, to bring back the smile on these children and their families.
